JACKIE PAYNE STEVE EDMONSON BAND
OVERNIGHT SENSATION
(JULY 22ND, 2008)

“Payne growls and testifies with class while Edmonson fires off notes in his solos that seem to both absorb into and ricochet off of plank floors and cavernous rafters.” – Hittin’ The Note

“…one of the tightest soul-blues aggregations of the new millennium.” – Blues Revue Magazine

“Co-fronting one of the best working bands today, Payne and able guitarist Edmonson show a lively intuition in overhauling the tried-and-true Southern soul and blues forms.” – Downbeat

The dynamic duo of vocalist Jackie Payne and guitarist Steve Edmonson return to the spotlight with yet another soul/blues gem on their latest recording "Overnight Sensation." But don't let the album title fool you; these two have been at it for years honing their skills and perfecting their craft with countless appearances on stages at festivals and clubs around the globe including a three month stint in Thailand, right after the big tsunami of 2004.

Their Delta Groove debut “Master of the Game” was heralded by critics and fans alike topping many year-end lists by DJs and radio programmers across the country. The album also garnered a 2007 Blues Music Award nomination for Soul Blues Album of the Year, while vocalist Jackie Payne has now been recognized by The Blues Foundation two consecutive years in a row earning two BMA nominations for Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year.

On their sophomore effort for Delta Groove, Jackie Payne and Steve Edmonson demonstrate once again their mastery of the fine art of timeless Rhythm & Blues delivered with style and flair that recall the classic sounds of Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Bobby "Blue" Bland. “Overnight Sensation” is a terrific example of this dynamic and wickedly tight band, which also features bassist Bill Singletary and drummer Nick Otis, along with the “Sweet Meet Horns®” consisting of Carl Green on tenor and alto sax and Lech Wiersynski on trumpet, as they take an explosive romp through another sweaty set of Gospel, Soul, Blues and R&B.

LOS FABULOCOS featuring KID RAMOS
LOS FABULOCOS (AUGUST 19TH, 2008)

Los Fabulocos play with enough energy to power a small fleet of lowrider vehicles. It's a fuel that burns full- throttle, ignited by the heat of soulful guitar and accordion solos that will make your heart bleed.

Anyone with even a passing fancy of American roots music or blues is certainly no stranger to Kid Ramos. Throughout most of the ‘80s, Ramos was a member of what is often considered to be the classic lineup of the James Harman Band featuring Willie J. Campbell, Stephen T. Hodges and the late Hollywood Fats, a group that performed up and down the California coastline and opened for such diverse musical acts as X, Oingo Boingo, The Blasters and The Plimsouls. Ramos left the band in ‘88 to begin a family, holding down a day job delivering bottled water for several years before eventually being coaxed back into music full time by Kim Wilson in ’95 as a full fledged member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds for seven years. Ramos released three successful solo recordings on Evidence Records beginning in ’99 and currently plays an active role as a featured guitarist in the critically acclaimed all-star revue, The Mannish Boys.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Ramos recently teamed up with vocalist/accordionist Jesus Cuevas, bassist James Barrios and drummer Mike Molina to form the Cali-Mex roots oriented quartet Los Fabulocos. The band is fronted by Cuevas, who spent a decade lending his talents on accordion with the East L.A. based group The Blazers, known for their rousing, danceable mix of rocked up norteno, cumbia, and other Mexican styles combined with blues, surf, and country music. Alternating between guitar and the bajo sexto, a type of 12-string guitar commonly associated with norteno and conjunto music, Los Fabulocos is powered by Ramos’ muscular tone and high octane delivery adding more fuel to the fire.

Los Fabulocos simmers up a spicy and tantalizing blend of traditional Spanish and Americana music featuring norteno, conjunto, blues, zydeco and rock ‘n’ roll delivered with sincerity, honesty and passion. It’s a special brand of roots oriented music that shares much in common with the south of the border styling of such pioneering acts as Los Lobos, Clifton Chenier, Freddy Fender, Flaco Jimenez, the Hacienda Brothers, and Doug Sahm’s Texas Tornados. “We mix it up,” Ramos explains. “We play songs in Spanish, then we’ll do a Fats Domino song, then we’ll play a blues, and then we’ll do a Buck Owens or Johnny Cash song. People look and go, ‘What?’ Then, all of a sudden, they just start dancing and having smiles on their faces.”

BILL SIMS, JR. & MARK LAVOIE AMERICAN BLUES ROOTS DUO
(DIGITAL ONLY RELEASE!)

“Bill Sims Jr. is considered one of the best musicians in the New York blues scene and Mark LaVoie is a master harmonica player who was Sonny Terry’s driver. Heard together here on “Gotta Go Down” they play the Blues as a duo should together, “like a glove on a hand.” Sonny gives this cut an “Amen!” - Big City Blues Magazine

Bill Sims, Jr. learned his lessons well while attending Ohio State, where he majored in music and had the privilege to play with many great blues legends that performed at the University. He had the opportunity of sitting in the piano chair of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Freddy King, the Ojays, Jerry Butler and many more. Bill Sims, Jr. is currently considered one of the best musicians in the New York blues scene. He tours both domestic and internationally.

Mark LaVoie is a master harmonica player, and is a protégé of harmonica virtuoso
Sonny Terry. He was Sonny's driver in the summer of 76 and performed with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Sonny said "Mark, take something from me, but play it the way 'You' feel it." Mark LaVoie has a style that is all his own.

In the early 90s while working in Burlington, Vermont, Bill met Mark and they became fast friends after discovering their shared love of acoustic blues. At the time they were working within an electric format, but that soon gave way to the acoustic duo. They have both been working together now for 15 years, and have become a fan favorite at blues venues throughout Vermont. Now with the help of Delta Groove Music digitally distributing their release American Blues Roots Duo through downloadable services such as i-tunes, Bill Sims, Jr. and Mark LaVoie are finally ready to bring their special form of blues to the world.

ALEX SHAKERI (AUGUST 13)
Piano / Hammond B3 / Keyboards

Alex Shakeri grew up in Vancouver, WA and began learning the rudiments of music by studying classical piano at the early age of seven. He was also taught flute when he was nine years old by his mother who was a trained classical flautist. In high school Alex devoted his interest full time towards piano as he began exploring the roots of American music, taking excursions through Jazz, Funk and Blues. Important musical influences that aided in his development included Bobby Shew, Oscar Peterson and Joe Sample, but it is also a little known fact that Alex enjoys playing the harmonica as well, citing Junior Wells, Curtis Salgado and Paul deLay as role models on the instrument.

LYNWOOD SLIM (AUGUST 19)
Harmonica / Flute / Vocals / Producer / FBI Rap Sheet

Lynwood Slim felt there were only two things he could do to make a living...shoot pool or play harmonica. Thank goodness he chose to play the harmonica! Born in the city of Los Angeles, this California native brings years of experience, dynamic stage presence, powerfully expressive vocals, and some of the most exciting and tasteful blues harp you're likely to hear. Starting out on trumpet as a child, Slim switched to harp after hearing blues legends Jimmy Reed and Little Walter, and was an early disciple of Big Walter Horton. Before long he was sitting in with many of the elder statesmen of the West Coast blues scene, carving out his own niche. Later years spent honing his craft in Chicago and Minneapolis alongside folks like Big Walter Horton and Leonard "Baby Doo" Caston helped Slim polish his already impressive skills, and led to the release of several excellent solo projects. Slim's virtuosity and versatility in the studio are also consistently in high demand as evidenced by his dozens of appearances as a sideman on recordings by Junior Watson, Kid Ramos, Dave Specter, Alex Schultz and Nick Moss & the Flip Tops, among others. These days Slim is back in California, fronting his own band, and earning a reputation as a producer of fine recordings by blues and roots artists both abroad as well as right here at home.

STEVE EDMONSON (AUGUST 31)
Guitar

Born in San Francisco, CA, Steve Edmonson spent the first several years of his life criss-crossing the country out on the road with his father. The son of folk musician Travis Edmonson, Steve learned the life of a traveling musican first hand as his father toured and performed with legendary blues artists Josh White, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Lightnin' Hopkins. Years later Steve began developing his own unique and articulate style as he started discovering such electrifying guitarists as Magic Sam, Luther Tucker, Eddie Taylor, B.B. King and T-Bone Walker. Throughout his career Steve has built up quite the musical resume as he has shared the stage with such legendary icons as James Cotton, Luther Tucker, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Maria Muldaur and Van Morrison. Four years spent with the Bay area Soul/Blues band The Dynatones eventually led him to the formation of his current project with the sensational and dynamic vocalist Jackie Payne.
