2010 heralds the passing of the five year anniversary mark of the birth of Delta Groove Music. Likewise, The Mannish Boys, for whom the label was originally conceived, are similarly celebrating five years of electrifying the Blues for audiences the world over. The fundamental concept of the band was simple; assemble a group of like-minded musicians to capture the spirit and joy of this timeless music, and reintroduce it for a whole new generation to appreciate and discover. This project, which was only initially envisioned as a one-time testimony to the power of the Blues, has now given way to a new institution privileged with the task of preserving this music and presenting it as a vital, living, breathing entity.
The Mannish Boys fifth album, “Shake For Me,” carries forth the tradition established by their very first effort, “That Represent Man,” by presenting an inspired program of deep, lowdown Blues supported by a surprising and ever-revolving unit of world class musicians. Reprising their all-star roles in the band are Finis Tasby, Bobby Jones, Johnny Dyer, Kirk Fletcher, Frank Goldwasser, and Randy Chortkoff, joined here by an entirely new and outstanding rhythm section comprised of Willie J. Campbell (The James Harman Band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds) on bass and Jimi Bott (Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Woodbrain) on drums.
As is customary on any Mannish Boys release, special guests abound. Rounding out the party for this truly distinguished gathering and cause for celebration are Rod Piazza, Mitch Kashmar, Lynwood Slim, Arthur Adams, Kid Ramos, Nick Curran, Mike Zito, Fred Kaplan, Rob Rio and Andy Kaulkin. But no festivity would be complete without at least one surprise party crasher and with that the Boys proudly introduce Dutch harp player and singer extraordinaire Pieter "Big Pete” van der Pluijm. Guaranteed to blow the roof off the joint, this towering Dutchman pays homage to Lester Butler on the storming New Orleans romp “Way Down South,” bringing to a close another chapter in what will surely be considered The Mannish Boys’ finest hour yet.

“Deep In America” follows true to the formula of the band’s previous two-disc set, “Road To Rio,” once again throwing open the vaults and treating fans to a virtual treasure trove of classic archival material obtained from two different eras of the band. Disc one gathers together a collection of recordings by The Hollywood Blue Flames featuring stellar support from guitarists Kirk Fletcher and Junior Watson, all drawn from various studio sessions over the years with previously unreleased material that includes outtakes, alternates and some newly recorded songs. Disc two contains more vintage live recordings taken from various sources of the original Hollywood Fats Band, showcasing the amazing talent of Hollywood Fats and the evolution the band was undergoing before his untimely death in 1986. “Deep In America” stands as a testament to the strength and power of a band whose music continues to burn ever so brightly after igniting that very first flame more than three decades ago.

The list was announced in February placing Candye alongside label mates The Insomniacs with their release “At Least I’m Not With You” at #5. The Insomniacs have seized their fair share of recognition and critical acclaim since the release of their sophomore effort “At Least I’m Not With You” on Delta Groove last year. On January 28th the band was invited to perform at the 2010 Portland Music Awards at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon where they took home the award for Outstanding Achievement In Blues. The show was broadcasted live on KBOO 100.7 FM and featured a wide range of talented artists and individuals that make up the rich and vibrant Portland music scene.
The Cascade Blues Association presented their Annual Muddy Awards last November and The Insomniacs were honored with the North West Recording of the Year for “At Least I’m Not With You.” The band has previously taken home awards for 2007 Best Contemporary Blues Act and 2006 Best New Act. Named in honor of one of Blues music's most influential forces —McKinley Morganfield, or Muddy Waters — the Cascade Blues Association's annual Muddy Awards Celebration honors local, regional, national and international stars of the Blues.
The Insomniacs were also honored with three nominations this year for the Blues Blast Music Awards by Illinois Blues Society. They headed to Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago to participate in the awards show on October 29th and to enjoy a great night of music. The band had the opportunity to back up "Sean Costello Rising Star Award" nominee Dave Gross for a blistering set and enjoyed hanging with old and new friends. It was a great night of music and excitement that culminated for the band when the final award was announced and The Insomniacs won the "Best Contemporary Blues Recording" category. They took the stage and closed the show with the help of fellow Portland great Curtis Salgado. |

Ronnie James Weber was inducted into the Crown Point High School's Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Ronnie James Weber for being inducted into the Crown Point High School Alumni Hall of Fame
for his Cultural Contributions in music!
Ronald "Ronnie James" Weber, Class of 1988, was inducted for the "C" of Culture. Ron has been a "Blues" bass player for many years, and has traveled the world with many different artists. Ron got his start here at CPHS where he participated in Choir, Drama. In fact one of Ron's fondest memories is of Drama Club. "Drama Club really brought out my creative side and built my confidence. I'm still the same 'drama-nerd' I was then. Funny thing is, so many people I meet and work with in the music business were 'drama-nerd,' too." Ron was also unable to attend due to his work schedule. Ron has worked with Delta Groove artists The Mannish Boys & Mitch Kashmar, as well as other artists like Jimmie Vaughn, Booker T. Jones, Muddy Waters, Little Charlie & The Nightcats and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The hardworking staff and recording artists of Delta & Eclecto Groove Records would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Robert Fitzpatrick for his past two and a half years of service and dedication here at the record label. At this time Robert is stepping down from his position as the label’s acting president and moving on to pursue other big projects in the film and music industry. In his stead, Randy Chortkoff will be assuming the daily tasks and responsibilities as the label’s president, in addition to his regular CEO duties. Robert brought with him a wealth of life experience that was invaluable to our company. His positive attitude and optimistic outlook always helped carry us through the day and will surely be missed. We wish him nothing but the best of success in life and his future endeavors.
