I was at the King Biscuit Blues Festival watching a performance of Anson Funderburgh when the vision for this album came to me. I knew the drummer Wes Starr lived in Austin, Texas. I asked him right then and there if he would be interested in working with me on this project. Wes has been touring and recording for four decades, and I believe is one of the greatest shuffle drummers working today. I have known Ronnie James since the early 1990s when he first came through the Twin Cities with Mark Hummel. When it comes to Blues bass, he is equally strong on upright as he is on electric. He spent several years as a member of Little Charlie & the Nightcats, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and is now with Jimmie Vaughan. Ronnie also plays on my 2002 release, Meet Me On The Coast. Austin is over-populated with incredible guitar players. Here two of the finest, Johnny Moeller & Nick Curran, came aboard. Listen how they naturally intertwined their parts, bouncing effortlessly between lead, rhythm lines, and fills. We also got Nick to play drums on the rocker Elevator Juice. Longtime Austin keyboard master Nick Connolly has recorded with Omar & The Howlers, Gary Primich, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and many many more. He was also nominated for a Grammy for his work with Delbert McClinton. For the remaining tracks, it was up highway I-35 to Jeremy Johnson's studio in North St. Paul, Minnesota. Here you hear a sample of the Super Reverbs, which is Jeremy Johnson and myself. Up To The Brim is a perfect example of our two man band. On the title track, Make It Good, Richard Medek joins us on drums. All the tracks on this CD were recorded on and mixed to analog tape. This is my tenth CD and my first CD for the Delta Groove label. I hope you enjoy it & I hope to see you when I am in your town.
