Husky voiced Ana Popovic is not only a powerful singer, the 12 songs here are all hers, varied in style and filled with sizzling guitar licks by the young Yugoslavia born multi-talent. Bitten by the guitar bug early on inspired by her music playing father, she’s been performing since the mid ‘90s in Yugoslavia, later moving to her current domicile the Netherlands where her band Hush gained popularity leading to her first release for German Ruf Records in 2001. A second album followed and with it an abundance of acclaims including a Handy award nomination for Best New Artist of 2003 and numerous tours including Ruf’s Blues Caravan and later Rhythm’n’Blues Cruises. Blind For Love is Ana Popovic’s second album for Eclectogroove and it just recently became the #1 played album on the Blues radio airplay charts. Mixing elements of Rock and Blues with aspects of Jazz and Soul, cuts range from the hypnotic Country Blues of “Steal Me Away” with slide guitar, hand claps to Blues and hard rockin’ Roots Rock, and the easy listening appeal of the title track. The opener “Nothing Personal” and the rollicking “Putting out the APB” rock with a Soul vibe while the slow groovin’ “More Real” is intense and personal. She gets funky on “Get Back Home To You” and pours out the love for her baby boy Luuk on “Part Of Me”. Ana Popovic (and her top-notch band and acclaimed producer Mark Dearnley) is taking the Blues to the 21st century with powerful, danceable, rockin’ songs, reaching a broader audience and opening doors for the Blues. Eclectogroove was even thoughtful enough to design a fold out poster (song lyrics on the back side) of the Blues singer whose looks are as hot as her music!
