ANA POPOVIC "STILL MAKING HISTORY"
Source:
Colossal Pop

Now, I’ll admit up until a couple weeks ago I didn’t have any idea that Ana Popovic existed. I did some research on the chick in leather pants though, just in case my dear reader isn’t hip to Ana either. Ana has been in the biz since the late 90's in Yogoslavia and has played gigs in Germany, France, and Netherlands as well. She’s been on the US radar too, having been nominated for a couple of Blues awards. You Tube is filled with her live performances so be sure to check it out.

Blind for Love will primarily appeal to die-hard Ana fans. This CD is a disappointment though after watching her performances. She is experimenting with her music in a too broad range for me to be very turned on to be honest. If I had only this CD to judge her point of view, it would go in a box never to return. The songs are filled with cliches, such as “Nothing personal, think I’m in love with you” (this is the very first line!). Her vocal style isn’t suited to sing popular tunes either, although she is putting a fine effort forth. It just doesn’t sound all that natural. The girl can definetely sing, she just doesn’t seem to be playing to her strengths very well. I wish I could just hear the soaring guitar playing  and nothing else. I want to rave and rave about her guitar and would love to hear an instrumental album from her, truth be told.

Just so we are straight, this is not a Blues recording. The target audience is not the blues fan. Actually, the only blues in this CD is Ana’s brilliant guitar playing and possibly track 3 “Steal me Away” and the last song “Blues for M”.  Take a listen to Ana on her website or You Tube before you buy. She is worth it but this CD isn’t.
