Ana Popovic’s (again that is pronounced Ah-nah Pop-o-vich) Eclecto Groove follow up to 2007’s highly successful, #3 on the Billboard charts, Still Making History is here and Blind For Love is destined to make some history of its own.
I reviewed her earlier CD in these pages in October of 2007, and this CD is a great CD. Still a mix of styles including blues in keeping with the labels direction. “Steal Me Away” has some gritty acoustic guitar work and the back-up vocals have a gospel feel. The title track, “Blind For Love” is a mellow pop song with a sweet melody and even sweeter vocals. I particularly liked “More Real” with its emotive vocals and subdued guitar phrasing. “Get Back Home To You” has a horn section and blazing guitar licks and “The Only Reason” is a jazzy song about the mysteries of life and love.
On “Lives That Don’t Exist” Ana brings on the funk as she sings about the down side of instant fame, paparazzi, gossip TV, being recognized when you’re out etc. When Ana breaks out the blues she does so with flair. The slow burner “Blues For M” shows Ana’s blues side, she sings “you are my joy my pleasure, you are my dream of home you are my taste of treasure, you are my strength my stone.”
Ana was the Saturday night headliner at the Mt. Baker R&B Festival followed sets by Jason Ricci and Johnny Winter, and if we had a case of her CDs, I’m confident that they would have sold out! Get a copy of Blind For Love, get tickets for Baker, pop the CD into the player and get prepared for a stomping show! |
