Arthur Adams is a well respected musician having played on projects from, Bonnie Raitt, Albert King, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson and Quincy Jones. He’s also the house band leader at B.B. King’s L.A. based nightclub.

When I first received this album I was expecting to hear straight forward blues music but instead what I heard was a well done collection of songs that mixes blues with R&B, jazz, and an urban AC sound that results in delightful musical candy for the ears.

When Adams was asked about the music that’s found on Stomp the Floor he said, “I’ve done it exactly the way I feel it. It’s all me; not all traditional blues, not all R&B, not all jazz, but a little of all of it.”

The title track, “Stomp the Floor,” gets things off to a hopping start with its upbeat soulful R&B sound that features both well done guitar and a killer bass part on it. The next 2 tracks, “You Can’t Win for Losing,” and “Don’t Let the Door Hit You,” are both soulful blues numbers that are filled with nice horn (trumpet, trombone, and saxophone) parts.

“You Can’t Win for Losing,” deals with having the ultimate bad day with everything going wrong, while “Don’t Let the Door Hit You,” deals with the end of a relationship when you’ve given all you can and have had it with the other person and telling them to not let the door hit them on their way out.

Skipping ahead to track-6, “You Got that Right, is the first of three instrumental tracks that are found on this release. This particular instrumental track is made up of a mix of jazz and R&B musical styles.

Track-7, “Callin’ Heaven,” mixes elements of urban AC with soulful R&B music. The anti-racism song talks about the day when all races will blend together as one.

Track-9, “Thrive on Your Vibe,” deals with when you’ve found that perfect love match in your life.

The last two tracks, “Around the Sun,” and “Blue Roots,” are the other two instrumental tracks that are found on Stomp the Floor. “Around the Sun,” offers up a mix of jazz and blues music while “Blue Roots,” is an up tempo track that infuses some rock into its blues sound. That song also features great guitar work in the forefront while in the background keys and drum parts add another layer to the sound.

With all of the great music and guitar playing that’s fund on Stomp the Floor Arthur Adams shows that he deserves all of the respect that other artist have for him.
