Candye Kane: Superhero
You already know that Candye’s one of our favorites – we had her on the cover of issue #70. Her saga continues on yet another label, and another of our favorites at that, too – Delta Groove! Her recent bout with pancreatic cancer is only one subject tackled, she doesn’t abandon her traditional things as in “I’m A Bad, Bad Girl,” “Whose Been Sleepin’ In My Bed?,” “I Like ‘Em Stacked Like That,” “Till You Go Too Far,” “Throw It In The Trashcan Love,” and others in addition to the title song, “Hey! Toughen Up!” and “I’m Gonna Be Just Fine.” The one cover is “ You Need Love.” This CD features Laura Chavez on lead guitar (excellent!), with whom Candye has been touring with lately, but you’ll also find Mitch Kashmar on both vocals and harp (1 song on each), Kid Ramos on guitar for a couple tunes, Dave Gonzalez on baritone guitar for a couple and Jonny Viau on sax for 3. Greg Rutledge adds some fine piano to “Ik Hou Van Je (I Love You.” Although she’s told us she wants to get back and so some Country songs again, this is thoroughly a Blues based project, and very much in keeping with her work over the last several years. And thoroughly enjoyable too, as always!
