Candye Kane: Superhero

Superhero is literally a comeback album and Kane’s testament to survival.  Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008, Kane, uninsured like many self-employed musicians, battled back against the disease with the help of friends and fans who raised money for her medical expenses.  A year later, Kane’s doctors have declared her cancer-free, and she has renewed her life and music with new passion and appreciation.

You can hear it in songs like “Superhero,” “Hey, Toughen Up,” and “I’m Gonna Be Just Fine.” Not one to belabor hard times, Kane also employs her powerhouse vocals on more straightforward blues, such as “I Like ’Em Stacked Like That” with Mitch Kashmar, “I’m a Bad, Bad Girl,” and Willie Dixon’s “You Need Love,” better known (and recorded on other Kane CDs) as “Whole Lotta Love” of Led Zeppelin fame. Kane and fellow
band member Laura Chavez co wrote six of the 12 songs, and Kane takes solo credit for four more.

Kane’s life has been a succession of hard times, and she has used them to embrace life more fervently and compassionately through her music. Don’t be fooled by the cute name; this gal means business.
