"Sister Vagabond"
Candye Kane is a survivor. She has risen to the top of the blues world despite coming from a dysfunctional family, being a teen mother, and beating pancreatic cancer.
Kane has released another very good cd. I really enjoyed her last effort, and this cd is every bit as good. This cd swings like her past efforts, but it also has a soul feel at times. At other times, there is a roots music vibe.
Credit must be given to guitarist, Laura Chavez. Chavez has been with Kane for the last few years. She still has a West-Coast Jump style, but her approach has broadened. She keeps getting better and better as her sound matures. She also co-wrote nine of the songs on the cd with Kane.
The songs on the cd have a mature feminist strength that is very positive. Kane’s singing is strong and vulnerable simultaneously. She continues to evolve and grow as a vocalist.
Candy Kane and Laura Chavez make an excellent team. Chavez is listed on the cover as being featured, and this is not mere lip service. This is a fine cd and an excellent follow-up to Kane’s last outing.
