THE INSOMNIACS "LEFT COAST BLUES"
Source: Blues Matters
Date: 11/2007
Writer: Billy Hutchinson |
These guys are the new generation of West Coast players, who are lead by a 25 Yr. old singer/songwriter/guitarist named Vyasa Dodson. The Portland, Oregon band as you might expect are a swing outfit who fairly hit a smooth classy groove from the opening track. Two of the 13 tracks are regarded as live bonus items, with all but three songs written by Vyasa Dodson. ‘Watch Your Mouth’ is a ‘50’s rocker, while ‘Stuttering Blues’ originally by the Scamps has a Charles Brown feel. ‘Crime Scene’ is a great instrumental that showcases the very tasty keyboard skills of Alex Shakeri. Catchy tunes in a retro style that is kept fresh by these debutants on Delta Groove Productions, with mostly singles length tracks that keep your interest throughout. File in your memory banks as akin to J. W. Jones, with a vocal that has a touch of Hamilton Loomis to it.
