THE INSOMNIACS "LEFT COAST BLUES"
Source: Washington Blues Society
Date: 09/2007
Writer: Malcolm Kennedy |
Left Coast Blues is aptly named, since many of the tracks have a West Coast jump Blues feel that I like to describe as T-Bone-esque, and although the Insomniacs so not have a horn section, their swinging style and Vyassa's vocals remind me of JW Jones. Left Coast Blues is "gets you up and bouncing" music from the opening cut, "Stick Around" to the fine instrumental "Be Quiet" which is followed by two bonus live tracks recorded at movie industry premier at the famed Avalon Room in Holywood. With their mix of swing and '50's style rock & roll the Insomniacs show why they won the 2006 Cascade Blues Association "Muddy Award" for Best New Act. The classic Tin Pan Alley piano and slick guitar lines on "I'll Treat You Right," the slow shuffle of "Stuttering Blues" and the sharp, guitar driven blues "I'm Not Sorry" all make this a strong CD, well worth adding to your collection.
