JASON RICCI & NEW BLOOD
Source: Pittsburgh Tribune

Date: 02/2008

Writer: Mike Hughes

Young bluesman to play tonight at Moondog's

Jason Ricci doesn't look like a typical bluesman. Start with his hair, sometimes streaked with red. Then, his wardrobe, which befits a punk rocker more than a guy who is following the footsteps of B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters.

But listening to Ricci's "Rocket Number 9," recorded with his band New Blood, is proof appearances don't matter. As a singer and harmonica player, Ricci is as authentic as it gets.

Listen to "Mississippi March 1997" or "The Way I Hurt Myself," and you'd swear he's from the South Side of Chicago circa the 1950s.

Ricci performs at 9:30 p.m. tonight at Moondog's in Blawnox. Also on the bill: The Eldorado Kings, Johnny Rooster and Perry Salati.
