JASON RICCI & NEW BLOOD
Source: Blues News
Date: 01/2008
Writer: Brillo and Billy Austin

From a 1960s psychedelic album cover to the excessive liner notes and the talk of growing up flamboyant and gay in rural Maine, it was obvious this isn’t your typical blues CD.  Yet, it’s one of the better CDs we’ve heard this year whether
talking blues, rock or anything else.  Jason Ricci’s vocals are something akin to Captain Beefheart meets Storyville.  He’s obviously one of the best harmonica players around.  How many people, besides Studebaker John play a processed harp?  Shawn Starky’s guitar has a tone reminiscent of Lynard Skynard.  On one tune there’s a wah-wah guitar remindful of Quicksilver’s The Fool.  On the title cut one expects this is what Zappa will be playing when he rises from the crypt!  Excellent CD and band.
