Whether you choose to call it Tex-Mex or Cali-Mex, Los Fabulocos Featuring Kid Ramos deliver a sound rooted in a plot of blues, Americana, ranchera, conjunto and Chicano rock.

Los Fabulocos have traveled the world extensively and will bring their ?Cali-Mex? sound to San Antonio on Saturday, February 13, at Casbeers at the Church (1150 S. Alamo).

?We?re going to be at Casbeers for a good friend of ours named John Calvillo who is having a retirement/birthday party, but it?ll be open to the public,? says Jesse ?Jesus? Cuevas, vocalist/accordion player for Los Fabulocos.

The band will take on the entire night at The Church starting at 9 p.m. with much dancing and fun to be had til midnight, for just $15 at the door.

?There are usually plenty of smiles on people?s faces while they dance all night,? Cuevas says in describing their performances. ?It?s pretty much always a party atmosphere.?

The band?s stop in S.A. is one of three shows Los Fabulocos will perform in Texas. They will first travel to Houston on Friday, Saturday in San Antonio, and then to Gruene Hall in New Braunfels on Sunday afternoon.

The Cali-Mex quartet has traveled abroad and overseas since their inception in 2005-06, and mixing it all up is what the band likes to do. In fact, Cuevas says even their European crowds immensely enjoy the roots music they bring to the table just as much, if not more, as their fans from the states.

?We?re pretty much a Tex-Mex band, but the record label calls it Cali-Mex being that we?re from California,? explains Cuevas. ?We play some rancheras, some blues and even some zydeco, and just mix it up with these [different] styles.?

Cuevas and Fabulocos drummer Mike Molina formed the band about four years ago after leaving former band mates in The Blazers.

Cuevas and Molina continued jamming together with various musicians, forming what would soon become Los Fabulocos. Vocalist and bassist James Barrios later joined the group, followed by Kid Ramos.

?We started playing shows with different versions of the band, different names, sometimes doing gigs with no name,? recalls Cuevas. ?Then, James jumped in about a year into the start of the band. We clicked with him right away and then Kid Ramos joined about two years later.?

Kid Ramos joined the band with much experience, having toured with bands like The James Harman Band and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

?I don?t know if it was before or after Jimmie Vaughan left the band, but he was with The Thunderbirds for about six or seven years,? says Cuevas. ?He?s just a well-rounded and well-respected guitarist.?

For the near future, the band plans to release another CD and continue to travel, with more stops to-be-determined in the Alamo City.

With the much help Los Fabulocos have received from their record label, Delta Groove Records, and solid support from their publicist, Jerry Brown, the band hopes to continue growing strong in the Tex-Mex (or Cali-Mex) world of music.
