Best Accordion Solo: Los Fabulocos feat. Kid Ramos
As one of the few (dare we say, only) roots music acts on the Hootennanny bill, the bicultural musicianship of Los Fabulocos feat. Kid Ramos were both original and pleasing to the average '50s rock & roll connoisseur. Featuring famed guitarist Kid Ramos (of Fabulous Thunderbirds and Mannish Boys fame), the band injected meat and potatoes rock with classic Norteña flavor. By that we mean that front man Jesse Cuevas can play a mean accordion. Flashing his prowess during songs like "Mexico Americano," Cuevas executed finger-licking runs over tight polka rhythms that briefly turned this Fourth of July Party into a Cinco De Mayo bash. Not an easy thing to do in front of a mostly white audience. Don't know if you noticed, but Hootennany even misspelled LF's name on the set list programs..."Los Fabulos feat. Kid Ramos."
