LOS FABULOCOS FEATURING KID RAMOS "DOS"

If you liked Los Fabulocos’ Delta Groove Music debut you will be equally pleased with their 2010 release Dos. The dozen tracks feature six by lead vocalist and accordionist Jesus Cuevas and one each by bass man James Barrios and David “Kid” Ramos. The songs vary from the vast bouncing happy feet zydeco influences “The Vibe” which features with Manuel “Big Manny” Gonzales on rub board a fiery guitar solo by Ramos to the medium slow “I Never Thought” with sax provided by Ron Dziubla (another nice guitar solo here too.) Five of the songs are sung, at least partially, in Spanish including “Los Chocos Suaves” with its infections melody and “Una Pur Y Dos Con Sal”. Two of my favorite tracks are Barrios “The Coffee Song” which features beautifully melodic guitar lines and Fabulocos take on Little Richard’s “Keep A Knockin” with versus alternating in Spanish and English and sax accents by Ron. Ramos’ own “My Brother’s Keeper” rocks out with a sturdy insistent beat and searing guitar. Los Fabulocos Dos is a terrific album well outside of Chicago Blues; but very deep in roots.
