LOS FABULOCOS FEATURING KID RAMOS

Veterans of the Californian Chicano music scene, Los Fabulocos are singer/accordionist Jesus Cuevas, drummer Mike Molina and bassist James Barrios together with legendary blues guitarist (and ex-Fabulous Thunderbird) David ‘Kid’ Ramos.
Described as Cali-Mex (the West Coast cousin of Tex-Mex), the music of Los Fabulocos weaves together several strands of American music including rockabilly, rock n’ roll, blues, country, traditional Mexican rancheras and zydeco to create an album with its heart pinned firmly to its sleeve and its roots proudly on display. The latter are particularly evident in their reworking of zydeco legend Rockin’ Dopsie’s “You Ain’t Nothin’ But Fine’, rock n’ roll original Lloyd Price’s ‘Just Because’ and the great Mexican norteno singer Cornelio Reyna’s ‘Como Un Perro’.
Together with a handful of originals, including Ramos’ red-hot instrumental ‘Burnin’ The Chicken’, this timeless music provides a vivid snapshot into the lives of the Spanish-American community and the history of American music. Redolent of the blood, sweat and tears of the ordinary working man and performed with a commitment, sincerity and passion that’s impossible to ignore and even harder to resist, Los Fabulocos is an unpretentious, life affirming and hugely enjoyable slice of Americana. Think Los Lobos with added attitude.
