THE LEGENDARY RHYTHM & BLUES REVUE
Source: Beach Music
Date: 04/2008

Writer: Mike Little

It was just last year that Delta Groove Music brought their recording artists together for a series of concerts. From these comes the release, The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue: Command Performance. This electrifying live album features a fine line-up of Delta Groove artists, such as Tommy Castro, Deanna Bogart and others. The work features all-star guest artists, Marcia Ball, Curtis Salgado and Elvin Bishop. Even though it is a live album, the quality is good, and you know it is a good album once you hear Tommy Castro’s rendition of James Brown’s I Feel That Old Feeling Coming On (Strong). Beware, though! This is a seven-minute song, but with today’s technology, that should not be a problem. Curtis Salgado takes over the lead vocals on If It Ain’t Me, and Marcia Ball gives us a rousing rendition of Frankie Ford’s Sea Cruise, written, of course, by Huey “Piano” Smith. Deanna Bogart, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Magic Dick and Tommy Castro share the solo tasks on the late Billy Preston’s Will It Go Round Circles. This national release should be relatively easy to find.
