LYNWOOD SLIM& THE IGOR PRADO BAND "BRAZILAN KICKS"
Source: Nashville Blues Society
Date: 02/2011
Writer: Don Crow

Lynwood Slim has long been associated with the Delta Groove label, not only as an established vocalist and harp player steeped in the tradition of the West Coast-flavored swing and jump blues, but also as an 'ambassador" of sorts, seeking out talent all over the globe. It came as no surprise when Slim hooked up with the Igor Prado Band, Brazil's premier blues outfit, to cut "Brazilian Kicks," thirteen cuts of vintage blues, jazz, and R & B that makes for a very entertaining listen!

The band is an amazing core of very young musicians (their average age is around 26!) whose immense talent and knowledge of American roots music belies their years.  Igor Prado plays a left-handed guitar upside down, and Brother Yuri holds down the drum chair. Add in Rodrigo Mantovani on slap bass, Denilson Martins on saxes, and Donny Nichilo on keys and these guys really know their business!

They blast off from the git-go with a tune associated with Junior Wells, "Shake It Baby." This one has a Maceo Parker-like sax break that jumpstarts Slim's vocals, then ends with some serious distorted guitar and a flute solo from Slim!  Slim shows off his vocal chops on a trio of jazzy love songs, "Bloodshot Eyes," "My Hat's On The Side Of My Head," and "Maybe Someday."  They get down to business with some traditional blues on "Show Me The Way," "I Sat And Cried," and our favorite, "Little Girl." The fellows show their knowledge of the jazz genre' too, with some sweet, sax-driven instrumentals, "Bill's Change," and "Blue Bop."
Lynwood Slim and the Igor Prado Band's release of "Brazilian Kicks" is a perfect fit for blues fans worldwide! Get your copy today and be prepared to be amazed by the talents of these young men! Until next time.....Sheryl and Don Crow.
