LYNWOOD SLIM "LAST CALL"

The basic concept here is to mix classic Blues songs with classics from what the Jazz and Sinatra sets call “the great American songbook.” I’m big fan of both, and I am happy to report that the mix comes across quite well here. Perhaps that’s because the songs are well chosen to mesh well, like the Ellington piece “Nothin’ But the Blues” (#5) which could fit in either category. Perhaps it’s because the arrangements bring the two genres closer, as in the snappy version of “Well Alright, O.K. You Win” (#1), or the classy “Wee Baby Blues” (#3). In any case, these and other standouts like “Me, Myself And I” (#8) and “You’re a Pain” (#6) make this a marvelous mixer in a Blues show.
