With their third album, The Mannish Boys Band features an all-star line-up from Delta Groove that carries on the blues tradition through original songs and several covers. For this event, the band features nine regular members and eight special guests. Finis Tasby sings five selections, including “Why Do Things Happen to Me?” and “Border Town Blues.” Johnny Dyer sings two selections and adds his soulful harp to “Just To Be With You.” Randy Chortkoff lends his harmonica to two selections and sings his original “Mine All Mine,” while Frank Goldwasser sings “I Can’t Stay Here” and adds his searing guitar to several others.
Guest Bobby Jones sings “Mary Jane” in tandem with Chortkoff’s fiery harp conversation, creating a stirring impression. Guest Rob Rio sings his “Carpet Bagger Blues” while paired with Kirk Fletcher’s amazing guitar as the band drives incessantly. Dyer sings “Just to Be With You” from the heart, while coloring this lovely ballad with harp through genuine soul. Tasby’s song, “Walkin’ Down Fillmore,” features double-trouble guitar excitement from Fletcher and Kid Ramos, while Leon Blue sings “Gotta Move” with Goldwasser’s slide guitar sharing that conversation.
The program follows blues in true fashion, maintaining the vocal tradition that relies on electric guitar and harmonica for its temperament. What developed through pioneers such as Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon continues to grow. Thanks to contemporary bands such as The Mannish Boys, this music will always be here for folks like us who appreciate a good thing when we hear it. |
