Kid's Jump, an instrumental written by guitarist Kid
Ramos, formerly of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, kicks
off this set and it's immediately obvious the Mannish
Boys are no ordinary blues band. In fact, this eight-piece
ensemble is an all-star collection of singers and players
all with decades of experience playing in bands fronted
by the likes of B.B. King, Big Mama Thornton, Lightnin'
Hopkins, Ike and Tina Turner and many others. As you
might expect from a band named for a Muddy Waters standard,
several of these songs, including Mannish Boy, Howling
Wolf and I'm Ready, are from the Waters canon. However,
with their rock solid rhythm section, creative leads
and distinctive vocals, the Boys make the Waters songs,
and other standards like Mystery Train, their own. |
