THE MANNISH BOYS "THAT REPRESENT MAN"

Subtlety and years of practice are the keys The Mannish Boys twist to unlock an hour’s worth of great blues on That Represent Man. Be it a stinging Kirk Fletcher guitar solo or a June Core cymbal-wash, this new group—vets both young and old—uses pure feel to draw in and then bowl over its audiences. Dallas’ Finis Tasby has a voice that quavers with the energy of untainted soul. It’s easy to picture him groovin’ and finger-snappin’ to theseTexas/Chicago/West Coast mixes. Like piano? Listen to Leon Blue tear it up and roll with it all over the place. Guitar? Fletcher and Paris Slim kill together. Several big guests sweeten the deal on this 17-song package, but my favorite is the semi-legendary, low-down and full-blown Mr. Johnny Dyer on harp. So far, The Mannish Boys more than live up to their moniker. Stay tuned.
