Well
this CD is by far one of the finest blues releases
it has been my pleasure to listen to all year!
Kashmar certainly got the formula right working
with some great musicians like Junior Watson,
Richard Innes, Rusty Zinn, Rick Reed, John Marx,
and Fred Kaplan in addition to producer/musician
Randy Chortkoff. This combination definitely works
with Kashmar's superb harp and vocals. Listening
to the CD will take you on a real blues trip that
will satisfy blues fans of all persuasions. Just
by checking out the CD cover, (which was shot
while recording the CD), you'll become instantly
aware how much fun these guys were having making
some GREAT blues! Listen to "Half Pint-A-Whiskey"
(Track 7) and you'll hear the party!
The
CD includes 12 great tracks that include nine
originals by Kashmar, two tracks, "Dead
Presidents" and "Up the Line,"
by Little Walter, and a Jimmy Reed flavored
track, "You Dogged Me", written by
producer Randy Chortkoff.
Kashmar
opens with "I Got No Reason", a blues
shuffle with Kashmar definitely playing Little
Walter inspired harp. "Dead Presidents"
follows, and Kashmar maintains that Little Walter
feel. "Green Bananas" sports kind
of a Caribbean feel as well as humor and wit!
"Funky Dee" is funky instrumental
that will get you hoppin with a great repeating
hook that you won't get tired of listening to
over and over.
The
title track is obviously "Wake Up and Worry".
Well what can I say except MAN THIS IS THE BLUES!
Tasty and subtle guitar work by John Marx, and
the west coast swing, carries this cut along
with Kashmar's Big Walter style harp playing.
I have certainly lived that Wake Up and Worry
experience and still find myself almost in the
same boat. i.e. lyrics... " Livin on my
plastic and fallin in way too deep".
It
is a special treat listening to "Up the
Line", and I think you will definitely
hear the late great William Clarke. I know I
did!
I'll
let you decide how to describe the feel of the
rest of the tracks, but I won't hesitate to
say you'll like them all without a doubt! Kashmar
has laid down some great work here, and credit
is given to the great musicians on the disc.
If you are a blues lover, this CD is a MUST
HAVE!
We
can't wait to see Mitch perform with the Hollywood
Blue Flames at the San Francisco Blues Festival
on Sunday, September 24th. Please check back
in for our coverage of this great Festival including
photos, Festival review, and several VERY special
podcast interviews. |
