I was ecstatic to see the follow up to Mitch Kashmar’s highly acclaimed 2005 Delta Groove CD “Nickels & Dimes.” Mitch was a 2006 Blues Music Award nominee for “Best New Artist Debut” and backs that up with this strong sophomore offering “Wake Up & Worry” released by Delta Groove in September 2006. Mitch has also just been nominated for a 2007 BMA “Best Harmonica.” Mitch has a magnificent voice and leads his stellar outfit with brilliant harmonica playing again featuring Junior Watson on guitars on seven of the twelve tracks. Among other artist playing on this CD Rusty Zinn is featured guitar on two tracks and ads second guitar to Junior on several more. John Marx plays two tracks, including one of my favorites “I’m Sorry.” Fred Kaplan adds piano or B3 on five cuts, Richard Innes and Rick Reed play drums and bass on all tracks incorporating them.
Wake Up & Worry quenched my thirst for some fresh, stout blues. Mitch picks ripe fruit from a young tree grafted on to sturdy roots. |
