BLUES BAND "FOOTPRINTS"
Source: Radio Feedback |
The new Phantom Blues Band CD is long overdue. It captures this talented group at its best.
Chuck Haddix, host of "The Fish Fry on KCUR-FM, Kansas City
Great grooves, great horns, great soul and blues; "Fried Chicken" is just gritty and dirty as can be - in the very best way.
Michael Byars, music coordinator, KCUR-FM
"The Phantom Blues Band has been a key ingredient to Taj Mahal's multi-faceted musical tapestry for years. It's been long overdue for the group to finally step out of the shadow and create their own footprint -- it's a shot in the arm for the blues music scene."
Black Jack Ketchum WRFG/Atlanta
“Huge air play for Phantom’s “Footprints CD, here. Mike Finnigan is a Wichita home town boy and pretty much next to godliness around here!”
Robb Morrison, 98.1 WXMX
“The Phantom Blues Band is an outstanding combination of high caliber players and songs. Their musicianship and songwriting makes them one of the premier bands performing today.”
Scott Fraley, Music Director, Out O the Blue Radio Revue
“The Phantom Blues Band “Footprints” CD would be our favorite. As usual, they are awesome no matter where they play or what role they are assuming.”
Dick Fairchild City Sounds Radio, Tacoma WA
“Phantom Blues Band -- I love these guys. First "Out of the Shadows", now "Footprints"! They cast a big shadow and others will have to follow in their ‘footprints’. Seriously, I just really enjoy "Footprints".”
John M Connors, WWPV 88.7 FM, Colchester VT
“I love the new Phantom Blues Band “Footprints” CD. I've been waiting for that disc for a long time. I had the pleasure of seeing Mike Finnigan with his old partner Jerry Woods back in the day. I've been a fan since then!”
Chuck Haddix “The Fish Fry” KCUR, Kansas City, MO
“Love the Delta Groove sound. Currently, I’m playing the new Phantom Blues Band 'Footprints' a lot. One of the year’s best!”
Jeff Hayward WMHB Maine
“The Phantom Blues Band has a great sound, they write cool lyrics, and they are definitely having too much fun. ”Footprints" is their best work to date!”

“Of the lot I think the Phantom Blues is my personal favorite.”
Chris Puyear KOPN, Columbia MO
“Footprints is certainly one of my faves this year. Any band with Michael Finnegan in it kicks ass! Although I announced it before I played it, people were calling me asking who the guy/band was! Keep up the great work!”
Putnay Thomas KUNM-FM University of New Mexico
"Footprints by the Phantom Blues Band is like getting a party in a jewel box. These sensational musicians have assembled a program that really does have something for everyone. From the rockin' opener (with some humorous lyrics) "Look at Granny Run" to some solid blues "See See Rider", beautiful ballads like "Cottage For Sale", cool soul jazz like "A Very Blue Day" and even a little "reggae stylee" in the mix , this CD has it all, just add your libations and you have an instant party!"
Steve Stoddard (KTUH, Honolulu Hawaii)
"From the first few bars, this release speaks volumes about the music that moves these guys and the miles and hours they’ve logged on their own and as sidemen to great roots artists. They cut a deep, wide swath with fresh takes on classic grooves, effortlessly struttin’ with authority and conviction. It’s a beautiful thing when top-notch players give it up to the songs and take joy in playing as a unit. The promise that was made with their last release, “Out of the Shadows” is fulfilled here with a great record."
Chas Lewis, "The South Side" / KHUM - Humboldt Co, CA
I just wanted to let you guys know that although it's 11.5 months away, my money for song of the year 2009 is going on "Cottage for Sale" off of the Phantom Blues Band disc. The song is so well written and sung that I actually feel the pain being expressed. Great song!

I got the Phantom CD alright. These guys sure do it right. It'll get lots of play on my show. DG has become an important part of my play list every week. Looking forward to next year, too.

The Phantom Blues Band - Great stuff! It's getting a lot of attention here and we've had good feedback on the material. It'll stay in our rotation for awhile.

I am having a bit of trouble getting the Phantom Blues Band out of the autoloader in the trunk of my ride. It is just sweet!

We just added the Phantom Blues Band a couple of weeks ago. A great mix of grooves & styles from a solid group of musical veterans.

I just received “Footprints” today just in time for my show. I can’t just play three tracks as per my custom for new releases…I am going to have to play four from this one.
John "One Chord" Connors ("Those Monday Blues", 5pm - 8pm EST (WWPV 88.7 FM, http://wwpv.org)
WOW!!!! Got "Footprints" in the mail on Tuesday and have listened to nothing else since then. I thought "Out of the Shadows" was terrific, and it is, but I really think "Footprints" is even better. Thanks so much for keeping me on your mailing list; it is truly appreciated.
I have got to get over the fact that I am amazed at each new release that comes from you guys. I shouldn't be amazed any longer, because the quality of music that you guys are producing is absolutely great.
I plan on featuring "Footprints" next Saturday, after it is released on Nov. 20. Cannot wait to start spinning tracks from it. The harmonies on the record are really excellent, and of course, the playing is always top notch. In fact I am listening to it as I send this email.
Brett Fleming (WEVL FM 89.9 Memphis / www.wevl.org / Soul Stew / Saturdays 6 - 9 p.m.)
Picked up Phantom today. Track 1 blew me out of my car seat. Please don't do that. Great CD.
