Rod Piazza & the Mighty Fliers Blues Quartet / Thrillville / Delta Groove. Rod Piazza blows the blues with some West Coast swing on a big-toned chromatic harmonica. He’s been recording now for 30 years, and his sound has matured nicely. I liked tracks #1 (an educational medley), #4 (with some nice piano from his wife, Honey Piazza) and #5 (a Junior Wells cover) and #12 (an instrumental with some great harp).

Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers - Thrillville - Rod and the band continue to do what he does best... play the blues... His playing is reminicent of his time with George "Harmonica" Smith and he shows his twists and turns of the blues in magnificent quality on "Westcoaster".. as well as great songs that include ... "Hate to see you go", "Get Wise", and more... the band shows there funky side on MFBQ and Rod has the band JUmpin on Snap Crackle Hop.. and it all ends with the great haunting harmonica sound in his version of Sad Hours.. I believe that this is the best Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers record to date.

The parcel sent me has now arrived. The first one I placed in my CD player was Piazza’s “ThrillVille” – after his fabulous, previous disc I couldn’t wait to hear the new one. When the first song was over I knew that I am in for a real treat – his take on Little Walter/Slim Harpo’s classic is just outstanding, a single song worth the price of the whole album. The rest of the material is also great and sounds very good in this quartet setting. Rod is in his prime as both, singer and harp player, but his companions also shine on this one. “ThrillVille” is a winner in my book, period.

One of Rod Piazza's best. Thanks again and keep 'em comin'.

Great to hear some new music from you and as always it is unbelievably good. Could not resist anything on both of the cd,s. We received the copies yesterday from John Ward and allocated them straight away. Both have been played today to really good responses from the listeners. As you can see by this weeks tip-sheet the two release figure prominently in what is a very strong sheet. Thank-you for the great music and support to the station.

Just a note to let you know I got Rod's CD & the Insomniacs. They came on a Friday & I had them on the air on Saturday. Great music, as I expected. I thought I would really miss Bill Stuve (one of my favorite bass players), but Honey's got it down. The Flyers are still one of the best bands in the land. Both these releases will get mucho airplay. Thanks again.
