Blending 50’s rock elements with jazzy West Coast Blues, and throwing in some Boogie Woogie for good measure, the Mighty Flyers once again show off their party-style approach to the Blues. This time around, they’ve invited some guests to the party, notably Kid Ramos on guitar (1&3), Phil Guy on guitar (7, 9, 11, 12), and Johnny Dyer sharing the vocals on Got to Find My Baby (11). One of my favorites is the Rod Piazza original , Description of a Fool (7), which has lyrics in the Louis Jordan / Fleecie Moore tradition, and some nice guitar work from Mr. Guy. And I never get enough of Honey Piazza’s piano, so the instrumental Honey’s Blues (9) is a real treat.
