In what the media commonly refers to as “the digital age,” mainstream radio seems more interested in promoting bands that are concerned more with their image rather than their songwriting craft. Between all the screamo and generic “post-grunge” bands with boring, recycled songwriting formulas, it is difficult for one to have hope for the future of rock music. Fortunately, there’s Sean Costello, a blues-rocker that fuses soul, funk, and good ’ol rock and roll to create a unique brand of music that will no doubt save your mortal soul.

Costello’s latest release, We Can Get Together, is a brilliant collection of songs that sound completely fresh, while at the same time pay tribute to their forefathers. At the surface, Costello’s songs may sound like nothing more than guitar-driven blues-rock, but a closer listen reveals a much deeper, heartfelt sound with soulful vocals and funky rhythms, along with some virtuosic guitar playing.

“Going Home” is perhaps the most beautiful song on We Can Get Together; the gospel chorus in the background is absolutely stunning and you can practically hear the emotion pouring out of the organ. Costello displays his excellent vocal range throughout “Going Home,” exuding a wealth of passion and guitar heroics of which the latest pre-fabricated modern rock band could only dream.

Sean Costello’s We Can Get Together is the proverbial light at the end of the dark and empty tunnel that mainstream radio created by bludgeoning its listeners with manufactured bands that exist solely to increase revenue. Between the beautifully crafted songs and excellent instrumentation, We Can Get Together is a testament to the purity of true rock and roll music.
