SEAN COSTELLO

For a young man who took up the guitar at age nine and was backing Susan Tedeschi when most of us were struggling to get prom dates and driver's licenses, Sean Costello has come an amazingly long way on the contemporary blues scene. And, he's further solidified himself as a heavy-hitter with his Delta Groove release, "We Can Get Together." It's a gritty collection of eleven cuts that take Sean's affinity for deep blues and mixes it with classic soul, all the while letting his smokin' axework and soulful vocals take center stage.
Check out the plays-the-guitar-like-ringin'-a-bell solo in the leadoff "Anytime You Want." A touch of "swamp guitar" drives the "Same Old Game," while all-out rockin' blues tell the tales of "Hard Luck Woman" and "How In The Devil." And, it seems like everyone's had that "Feel Like I Ain't Got A Home" feelin,' at least until ya "get to your baby's door!"
It is Sean's forays into classic soul territory where we feel he's matured the most, however. The deep growls of "Can't Let Go" are immediately followed by "Sean-channels-Al-Green" shouts in "Told Me A Lie." This one also employs a cool backing chorus. And, that sweet solo midway thru "Have You No Shame" is worth the price of admission, indeed!
It is refreshing to see a young bluesman broaden his horizons into different musical territories while maintaing a firm foothold in the blues. Do yourself a favor and give a well-deserved listen to a true "young lion" of the blues, Sean Costello and "We Can Get Together!" Until next time...Sheryl and Don Crow.
